Update 6/8/2021

New auto-update version: 2.0.67.0
This release has feature improvements, important security, stability and performance fixes

Important Notice (for updating from versions prior to 2.0.65):

Please replace installers in the RMM with new installers before pushing out product. Some versions cannot be updated directly to 2.0.65 causing an error to occur after updating. Typically, the updater won’t start. This can be easily resolved by copying 4 config files from a working 2.0.65.0 agent (copy the following files from C:\Program Files (x86)\Actifile Agent:  AFAgentService.exe.config,  AFAgentServiceManager.exe.config, AFAgentStop.exe.config, and AFUpdaterService.exe.config).

 UX Change Log:

  1. New FIPS compliance tool audits and reports on Actifile’s usage of the Microsoft Cryptography Module in its FIPS validated modes (ask Actifile to enable it for you)
  2. Audit reports version numbers for the cryptography module and OS, version and the status of the FIPS group policy setting. (see image below)
  3. New “Requires FIPS validated encryption” checkbox to policies.  (see image below)
  4. Actifile can change the FIPS group policy setting for machines that have data that requires FIPS validated encryption.

5. New Uninstall feature allows agents to be uninstalled directly from portal. In the customer menu, under Deployment -> Installed Devices choose the devices you wish to uninstall and click Uninstall. You will then be asked if you wish to remove all reporting data from the Actifile portal as well (prior to deleting the data make sure you created and exported any risk/compliance reports you may need later).

Note: Only agents that are online may be removed from the portal. Agents that cannot connect (e.g. network issue, powered down, etc.) will have to be removed manually or fixed before the uninstall can proceed.

6. 2FA – now verifies that the phone number is correct before implementing the switch to 2FA. The user is sent a text with a verification number that has to be provided – and if it isn’t the user is given the opportunity to edit the number until the text is successfully received.

Agent Change Log:

  1. Agent works only with .Net 4.5 or higher version (to enforce TLS 1.2).
  2. Agent reports on FIPS validation status on Microsoft Windows endpoints.
    3. Performance improvements on agent.

Update 4/13/2021

New auto-update version: 2.0.65.0
This release has important security, stability and performance fixes

Important Notice:

Please replace installers in the RMM with new installers before pushing out product. Some versions cannot be updated directly to 2.0.65 causing an error to occur after updating. Typically, the updater won’t start. This can be easily resolved by copying 4 config files from a working 2.0.65.0 agent (copy the following files from C:\Program Files (x86)\Actifile Agent:  AFAgentService.exe.config,  AFAgentServiceManager.exe.config, AFAgentStop.exe.config, and AFUpdaterService.exe.config).

 UX Change Log:

  1. Activation toggle in device settings (under the Deployment tab -> Installed devices menu)
  2. The Protection Profiles has moved to the deployment page and is now called “Policies”. The flow is you set the compliance profiles and the next button down you can see them.
  3. The “library” of policies is now called “policy templates” and doesn’t need the inverted “caret ^”.
  4. A new Actifile driver button for EA testing is available under individual device settings.

SUPPORT ALERT – ESET NOD32 USERS

It has been brought to our attention that a recent Eset AV update started falsely detecting and quarantining a file from Actifile’s x64 directory that is part of Actifile’s installation.

An error message appears in the Actifile Log as:

12:00:16 AM|cntn|Exception occured: DllNotFoundException: Unable to load DLL ‘eventsfilter.dll’: The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)

Resolution: The file is critical to Actifile so must be reinstalled either by releasing it from quarantine, reinstalling – or manually copying from a working install (make sure it is the same version agent).

Also, it is important to whitelist Actifile in AV engines, EDRs and IPS as per the KB article: Antivirus / EDR / IPS: Whitelist requirements to avoid collision performance issues – Actifile.

Update 1/25/2021 (will be released tomorrow)

New auto-update version: 2.0.62.0
This release has important stability and performance fixes.

  1. Actifile next generation driver is available for activation via tenant \ device settings.:
    1. Support for direct Network Drive decryption
    2. USB device support.
    3. Error messages, system logs and FLTMC command report new driver as Actifile and not Easefilter.
    4. New driver loads on Service start (instead of boot start) and thus can no longer affect the boot process.
  2. Acrobat reader log events are now reported correctly
  3. Fix of issue with removable device being reported incorrectly as Explorer
  4. Improved AV/EDR compatibility (running alongside) by signing the DLL and EXE files using our EV certificate
  5. Fixed agent requesting login credentials after upgrade version process

 UX Change Log:

Activation toggle in device settings (under the Deployment tab -> Installed devices menu) and in General Settings (under Settings tab)

Update 12/16/2020

New auto-update version: 2.0.59.0
This release has important stability and performance fixes.

 UX Change Log:

1. White labelling is now available (Partner portal -> General Settings). This will change the main menu banner and the report banners.

2. UX improvements in the Application Risk tool: Application risk is now split into 2 tabs. Detected Apps (grey star) and Trusted Apps (golden star). If an application is marked as trusted by clicking on the star (e.g. Office Application, Medical Records Portal, etc.), it is transferred to the trusted Tab and is no longer counted as a risk.

3. Device risk now shows (and is sorted by) liability on the device.
4. Device risk search can now search for users as well as device name.
5. Backup feature has been removed (see update 11/6/2020 below for details).
6. Installed Devices tool (under the Deployment tab) shows more details (like detected record count).

Update 12/1/2020

New auto-update version: 2.0.57.0
This release has important stability and performance fixes.

 Important support note:

It is important to keep your agents up-to-date. Doing so ensures that all recent bugfixes and features are implemented. To check which version is running on the endpoint access the Deployment tab -> Devices Management. The version is the right-most column. In the example below, an older version of Actifile was the last running version.

Compare the last running version to the current production version listed  here in the Updates section. The current production version is 2.0.57.0.

You may prefer to keep Actifile running and updated – or to remove it from the device.

  1. To keep Actifile updated is easy: The updater service updates the agent automatically whenever it is connected to the network. If it isn’t updated, check that the Actifile Updater and Actifile Agent Services are running. Check that the device can connect over SSL port 443 to the network and that and SSL DPI is excepted for Actifile. You may also reinstall the agent.
  2.  If, however, you want to remove or stop an agent, it is important to follow the relevant KB article:

Update 11/18/2020

Improved ability to Deactivate and Activate the Actifile agents. Use cases for deactivating Actifile:
1. To conduct time limited risk assessments.
2. Periodic QBR reports without installing and uninstalling the agent.
3. Conducting periodic compliance audits.

For more information on Activating and Deactivating the agents see the associated KB article: deactivating-and-activating-actifile-at-a-client-site

Update 11/6/2020

New auto-update version released: 2.0.55.0.

This update has several important bug fixes and new features.

New Feature: File Detail Export
Description: This feature allows a full list of files to be exported, along with the device name, path and the determined classifications.
Use case: This function is meant to help the MSP or admin to locate files that have findings, and to share the list with employees, in an effort to delete unneeded sensitive data.

Bug fixes:
1. CPU usage reduced.
2. RAM usage reduced.

Important Notice

On December 1st, 2020 the Backup feature will be discontinued. The Backup feature is being removed as part of an ongoing effort to improve Actifile’s focus on Data Privacy and Compliance, while improving system performance and reliability.

Details of the changes are as follows:

1. The Enable Backup” on the General Settings page will be removed.

2. The associated “Download” button in the Data Explorer will be removed.

3. The data stored in AWS will be deleted.

The change will not require any changes on the tenant devices and will be fully transparent to end users.

Please contact info@actifile.com with any questions you may have.

Update 9/29/2020

New auto-update version released 2.0.51.0.

Important note: As part of this update several issues were corrected, issues that in some cases resulted in erroneous liability counts. ~30% of accounts will therefore see a correction (usually increase) in their liability.  This increased liability is a result of: (i) corrected ability to count in files that have multiple records and (ii) improved parsing allowing more files to be parsed and content detected.

Change Log:
1. Lucene index was removed reducing load
2. Periodic 500 error in agent addressed
3. Production issues fixes

UX change log:
4.  Delete operation performance improved
5. Ability to copy multiple classifications from library

Update 9/23/2020

CMMC profile added, covering the detection of 5 DoD Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) classifiers:

CUI
CUI//NOFORN or NF
CUI//NNPI
CUI//UCNI
CUI//NDP-1

Use the Compliance Profile tool under the Deployment tab to enable the compliance profile.

Update 9/21/2020
